Infinera joins Telecom Infra Project

Infinera has joined the Telecom Infra Project, an engineering initiative launched recently by Facebook and Deutsche Telekom.

Infinera, a provider of intelligent transport networks, has joined the Telecom Infra Project (TIP). TIP is an engineering-focused initiative driven by operators, infrastructure providers, systems integrators, and other technology companies aiming to reinvent the traditional approach to building and deploying telecom network infrastructure.

Co-founded by Facebook and operators such as Deutsche Telekom and SK Telecom, TIP brings together leading industry innovators to collaborate to develop new technologies and rethink approaches to deploying network architecture that use all of the new advances in networking technology and an open approach to development.

TIP is exploring new approaches and technologies across three initial focus areas: access, backhaul and core-and management.

Infinera will contribute its expertise in developing and deploying innovative packetoptical technologies and solutions for all three areas globally. Infinera provides Intelligent Transport Networks which enable telecom network infrastructure to scale as well as simplifying optical network operations.

“We are delighted to join TIP and look forward to collaborating with Facebook and other industry leaders to define the future of telecom networks,” said Ashoka Valia, Senior Vice President, Business Development at Infinera. “With this collaboration, Infinera’s leadership in technology innovation and large-scale photonic integration to play an even greater role in solving the future connectivity requirements of networks across the globe.”

Hanoi Telecom Corporation does Infinera deal

Infinera recently announced that Hanoi Telecom Corporation (HTC), a wireless telecom operator, had selected its Intelligent Transport Networks to advance its optical network in Vietnam. HTC extended its existing Infinera TM-Series metro network with the DTN-X Family for its backbone connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Vung Tau.

The selection via Infinera’s established local partner, Nissho Electronics Vietnam positions HTC with a unified metro and backbone network that includes a common network management system for rapid service delivery in the region.

HTC is one of the leading wireless telecom operators in Vietnam and offers carrier and wholesale services, focusing primarily on providing wireless, broadband and VoIP services to 13m subscribers.
