Microsoft hires former Vodafone executive to run UK business

Microsoft has hired a top executive who said she was leaving Vodafone UK in March.

Cindy Rose, who was managing director of the consumer division of Vodafone UK, announced she was leaving the mobile operator in March. Now Microsoft has appointed her as CEO of its UK operation, starting in November.

Rose will be responsible for all of Microsoft’s product, service and support offerings across the UK, including its mobile and cloud products.

Jean-Philippe Courtois, president of Microsoft International, said: “She brings a real strength in driving complex, customer-focused businesses and a deep understanding of the digital space. As we continue to transform as an organization and support our customers’ digital transformation, Cindy’s experience will be invaluable.”

Rose replaces Michel Van der Bel, who will move into a new role yet to be announced. Her experience is mainly in the consumer sector, including at cable operator Virgin Media and at the Walt Disney group before Vodafone.

During her time at Vodafone UK the company was criticised for poor sales of its Vodafone Connect bundled broadband product.
