Ofcom publishes UK spectrum sharing framework

UK watchdog Ofcom has published a framework which will be applied to future spectrum authorisation decisions in order to assess sharing opportunities.

“The framework reflects the need to consider carefully the circumstances of each potential opportunity, covering its costs and benefits,” Ofcom said.

New sharing opportunities will result in benefits for citizens and consumers from better and potentially new wireless services, the regulator added, having launched a consultation in July 2015

Ofcom also published a call for input inviting stakeholders’ comments on the first new opportunity it is considering under the framework, for the band 3.8-4.2GHz, due to run until June 9, 2016.
