Telehouse, together with parent company KDDI, have opened a new data centre facility on Telehouse’s existing Tama campus in Tokyo, Japan, a short distance from the centre of the city.

The site comprises of 1300 tenant racks providing up to 42 KVAs per rack. Telehouse claims that this is the highest in the region. The Tama campus now has a total capacity of 4,300 racks in total.

This new expansion continues the increase in the popularity of enterprise colocation. Sandra de Novellis, head of marketing at Telehouse, said: “The continuous demand for data centre space in APAC, combined with a strong investment partnership with KDDI, allows Telehouse to expand quickly in key hubs.”

High density colocation services such as Telehouse’s enable the hosting of heavy load IT infrastructure, private cloud and densely-integrated content services.

A hybrid quake-proof structure has been employed in the building of all the Tama campus facilities which makes them resistant to long-period ground motion. The data centre is located 30 kilometres away from the metropolitan area, which has a lower risk of earthquakes and is less prone to other disasters, including floods and tsunami.
