Hutchison to meet EU regulators over O2 deal

Hutchison will meet with European Union regulators next week to address objections to its £10.25 billion deal to acquire O2.

Organised by the European Commission, the closed door hearing on March 7 will be attended by Sky, Virgin Media, Vodafone and BT.

The combination of Hutchison’s Three UK and Telefonica’s O2 which will create the country’s largest operator in the country has created concerns over competition in the country’s market.

Heavy concessions are expected to come from the regulator. In October 2015, the European Commission launched an in-depth investigation into whether the deal might negatively impact the UK market.
