Cisco executive steps down

Cisco’s EVP and chief development officer Pankaj Patel is to step down from his position in the second half of 2016.

Patel was selected by newly appointed CEO Chuck Robbins to join his 10-member executive team in June 2015, before Robbins officially took on his role the following month.

Patel’s departure from Cisco follows the resignation of chief technology and strategy officer Padmasree Warrior late last year.

A number of other executives also exited Cisco shortly after Robbins’ appointment to CEO, including president and COO Gary Moore, and president of development and sales Rob Lloyd. Both were seen as strong contenders for the CEO position.

Patel was responsible for driving innovation across Cisco’s networking and data centre architectures, and his successor has not yet been revealed.

Patel joined Cisco in 1996 when it acquired StrataCom and has previously served as SVP and general manager for Cisco’s service provider unit.
