3 Denmark and Telia sign national roaming deal

3 Denmark has signed a wholesale roaming agreement with Telia, ending its previous deal with TDC.

As part of the deal, 3 Denmark will gain access to 3G data roaming, as well as 2G and 3G voice. The service is scheduled to be implemented by February 2016.

“Our customers are heavy users of their smartphones, and this is regardless of where in the country they are,” said Morten Christiansen, head of 3. “It is therefore important for us to ensure that in the future our customers also have full access to mobile data in outlying areas. At the same time we have reached an agreement that both we and Telia are happy with.”

Customers of 3 Denmark will be able to use Telia’s network in areas that its network does not cover. The operator will increase its 3G network by acquiring more sites. It expects its 4G network to cover 88% of the population by year-end.

Morten Bentzen, head of Telia, said: “I am both happy and proud to announce the agreement with 3. It is probably the biggest wholesale agreement in Denmark, and it strengthens our already strong position in the market. By virtue of its size, the agreement is good for business and our income, and at the same time it is testimony to the high quality of our network.”
