Bharti Airtel has signed a four year deal with Ericsson which will see the vendor roll out a 4G network in Delhi.

The network will allegedly be the first LTE-FDD roll-out by Ericsson in the Indian city, and it is designed to enable Bharti Airtel to address the growing demand for mobile broadband services from customers in the region.

“The Delhi market is currently experiencing a rapid increase in the uptake of data-centric services,” said Abhay Savargaonkar, CTO at Bharti Airtel.

“As market leaders, we at Airtel are deeply committed towards delivering the best data experience for smartphone users and have made investment in high speed 4G network to improve the data experience of the customer.”

Ericsson will deploy its multi-standard radio equipment for macro and small cell networks, as well as its LTE RAN software, and the solution will work alongside the existing 2G and 3G networks deployed by Ericsson.

“Our global leadership and expertise made it possible to roll out the LTE network in record time,” said Paolo Colella, head of region India at Ericsson.

“LTE will be a key enabler in realising Ericsson's vision of the networked society and our high capacity LTE network infrastructure will enable Airtel subscribers to enjoy a seamless, high-speed mobile broadband experience.”

Bharti Airtel has also partnered with Ericsson for the roll-out of LTE networks in four other circles in India.
