The announcement comes days after Bharti Airtel launched 4G services in the country, adding that it would expand its coverage to approximately 300 towns in the coming weeks.
"Testing of 4G services has commenced successfully. Vodafone India has partnered with leading global technology infrastructure service providers for the network roll-out," said the company.
As part of the first wave of the rollout, the services will be rolled out to important data markets, including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Kochi. Pan-India 4G services will be launched at an appropriate time, the company added.
In February 2014, Vodafone India was awarded spectrum licences in 11 telecoms circles in the government’s 900MHz and 1800MHz spectrum auction.
