Established in 2005 and based in the US, SevOne is an infrastructure performance monitoring platform designed to “address the needs of today’s most connected global companies”, says the company’s MD of activity in EMEA, Sean O’Donnell.
Purpose-built to replace legacy performance monitoring tools challenged by today’s customer requirements, SevOne offers its customers the ability to ensure the existing and future delivery of applications and services; done via monitoring, reporting and alerting on the entire digital infrastructure.
It is O’Donnell’s job to expand SevOne’s operations across the EMEA region, growing its customer base and overall sales. “No two days are the same at SevOne. We continue to be a fast-growing company with a huge on-going market opportunity,” he says. “It’s always exciting to work for a company that has a world class offering, and that’s definitely what we have at SevOne.”
SevOne works closely with operators, especially in the enterprise space, and O’Donnell notes the huge opportunity he sees for the carrier market in Big Data. The high-speed networks of today are creating floods of data, meaning enterprises are having to derive new ways to gain critical insights from their performance metrics. However, O’Donnell says that these infrastructures are stretching existing legacy monitoring tools to breaking point.
“With multiple metrics, tidal waves of data and fluctuating demand, operators need a new approach to effectively monitor their infrastructure and deliver vital applications and services,” he says.
“There is a tremendous importance now being placed on platforms that can deal with gathering and rapidly analysing volumes of information that are increasing dramatically in size.”
O’Donnell believes preparation is key for operators, and he notes that while there is a vast opportunity in Big Data, it also presents a challenge: “The exponential increase in data seen to date will be dwarfed in a very short time, as mobile growth, IoT and cloud service delivery moving to software-define everything (SDx) and hypserscale data centres converge,” he says.
“Operators need systems that are not only equipped to handle current levels of data, but the anticipated explosion over the coming years.”
An industry veteran, O’Donnell has previously held roles at Dimension Data, Nortel, HP, Siemens and most recently, EMC where he was responsible for the Western Europe sales team.
Outside of work and O’Donnell maintains this thirst for a challenge with frequent trips clay pigeon shooting: “Frustrating at times but also really satisfying,” he says.
