  Rogers Communications has acquired Mobilicity and secured spectrum through a series of deals, cementing its position as Canada’s largest operator. [read more

 

Midweek Mergers

  The South African government has sold its 13.91% stake in Vodacom to Public Investment Corporation (PIC) to help raise 23 billion rand ($1.9 billion) for state-owned utility Eskom. [read more
  Vivendi has increased its stake in Telecom Italia to 14.9%, replacing Spain’s Telefonica as the group’s largest shareholder. [read more
  Cisco looks set to acquire cloud-based security firm OpenDNS for $635 million as it aims to enhance its security offering. [read more
  Turkcell has acquired the remaining 44.96% stake in Euroasia Telecommunications, which owns Ukrainian operator Astelit, for $100 million. [read more
  Orange’s takeover bid for Spain’s Jazztel has been accepted by 95% of shareholders of the Spanish group. [read more

  AT&T plans to invest around $3 billion in its high-speed mobile network in Mexico. [read more
  Prospective satellite operator OneWeb has raised $500 million in its first round of funding for what it claims will be the world’s largest internet satellite network. [read more
