Robi selects Alcatel-Lucent OSS

Bangladeshi mobile operator Robi Axiata has partnered with Alcatel-Lucent for its Motive OSS software portfolio.

The portfolio is designed to leverage cloud technologies for operators, enabling them to reduce costs and enhance their services. Robi is said to be the first customer to deploy the Motive OSS portfolio.

Specifically, the Bangladeshi telco will deploy the Motive Dynamic Operations platform throughout its data centres for centralised management and monitoring of its network.

“The Bangladesh market is representative of a large proportion of the APAC, CALA and Africa markets where the mobility of the population and appetite for data is growing exponentially,” said A.K.M Morshed, CTO at Robi Axiata.

“To keep up with this growth, Robi was looking for a solution to help improve customer experience in a very competitive environment.”

The deployment includes Alcatel-Lucent’s Motive Service and Unified Resource Engine (SURE), Motive Service Event Manager (SEM) and Motive Service Performance Manager (SPM) software products, and the solution is expected to be deployed and operational during H2 2015.

“As Robi begins its network transformation toward NFV and Cloud operations, it is critical to have OSS capabilities that can support the move to the Cloud,” said Srini Sundararajan, president of Alcatel-Lucent South Asia.

“Alcatel-Lucent’s Motive Dynamics Operations platform will enable Robi to streamline its siloed systems onto a more automated and cost efficient operational framework, enhancing its ability to deliver future cloud services with a high level of performance and quality.”
