Telenor appoints chief executives in Thailand and Malaysia

Norway’s Telenor Group has appointed chief executive officers of its Thai and Malaysian operations.

Lars-Åke Norling will head up Total Access Communication (dtac) in Thailand, and Albern Murty will assume the role of CEO at Digi in Malaysia.

Norling’s appointment follows Sigve Brekke stepping down as interim CEO at dtac to return to his role as EVP and head of region Asia at Telenor Group. Murty steps up from his position as COO for the new role.

Brekke said he was pleased to appoint two of the Group’s most experienced executives to its two biggest Asian companies.

“dtac is currently in the middle of a major drive to become Thailand’s leading internet provider and Lars-Åke brings all the vital competencies required to continue that journey,” he said.

“Albern has grown through the ranks of Digi, contributing strongly to the company’s relentless customer focus and its innovative internet for all approach. As such, Lars-Åke and Albern represent the best of our leadership DNA and I’m confident that they will deliver continued growth in dtac and Digi.”

In November last year, Telenor Group reshuffled the chief executives at its operations in Bangladesh and India
