iBasis and Tele2 strike LTE roaming agreement

iBasis and Tele2 have established a multiservice IPX interconnection for LTE roaming.

The agreement will enable the carriers to offer LTE roaming services to their mobile operator customers globally, as well as offer value-added services such as LTE signalling.

It will also enable Tele2 and iBasis to use each other’s IPX interconnect for international voice, with the companies said to be exploring opportunities with VoLTE moving forward.

“Tele2 is one of the most growth-oriented and innovative operators in Europe, with a very strong commitment to 4G/LTE as the engine of that growth,” said Willem Offerhaus, iBasis CEO. “This multiservice IPX interconnection takes our relationship to an even more exciting level as we enable a new generation of services like LTE Roaming and VoLTE.”

iBasis has signed a number of key LTE roaming agreements in 2014, including a deal with Polkomtel and KPN in May, and another with Middle Eastern operator Etisalat in March.
