New Megaport CEO to drive global expansion

Capacity Asia day 2 – Megaport has appointed Denver Maddux as CEO at the company and expects this to drive its strategy of making aggressive international expansions over the next 18 months.

Former senior director of global network services at Microsoft, Maddux has a strong background in global network strategy and his appointment also follows news of Megaport’s fibre asset spin-off; Superloop.

Bevan Slattery will remain executive chairman at Megaport and hopes Maddux’s appointment to inspire the company to achieve its vision.

“I have known Denver since his days building out Limelight Networks global content delivery network and have always been impressed with his deep experience and leadership in network technology, which is what we need to take Megaport to the next level, to take us global,” Slattery said.

The move to spin off Megaport's fibre assets into Superloop forms part of the strategy to focus on international expansion of the company's interconnection services.

“I thought it was important to be crystal clear about Megaport's mission and provide focus and clarity for the Megaport platform,” Slattery added.

“The underlying fibre network was developed as an enabler for Megaport in its initial markets. The accelerated growth of the network has created a standalone business, warranting an independent strategy and resourcing that can be provided within Superloop.”

Superloop's Australian network is expected to go live in January 2015, with dark-fibre connectivity between major data centres. Over 70% of the Singapore network is expected to then go live next March, with the completion of roll-out slated for July.

“It is a tremendous privilege to join Megaport at such an exciting and critical stage. I simply could not be more excited to build on the solid foundation and already remarkable adoption that the company has executed across the Asia Pacific region,” Maddux said.

“Bevan has really driven his vision to deliver innovation in connectivity for network and cloud providers. Building on that success and accelerating the company’s growth globally will be my primary mission.”
