Polkomtel completes LTE-A trials

Poland’s Polkomtel has reportedly become the country’s first telco to test LTE-A equipment.

Polkomtel partnered with Sweden’s Ericsson for the trials which used carrier aggregation technology in the 800MHz and 2600MHz bands.

The operator launched its first 4G networks in October 2012, and an LTE-A network is expected to provide theoretical download speeds of up to 300Mbps.

Polkomtel offers services under the ‘Plus’ brand and reported its existing 4G network to have 66% coverage in Poland at the end of June 2014.

In September this year, Polkomtel and Ericsson tested LTE Broadcast technology.
