O3b prepares for December launch

O3b has confirmed that its third group of four satellites will be launched from Le Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG) at Kourou in French Guiana on December 18.

Arianespace will deliver the O3b satellites into a circular orbit at an altitude of 8,062km, bringing the total of satellites in orbit for the company to 12.

O3b Networks launched commercial services on its constellation across Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific in September this year.

It claims to be delivering more than 4Gbps of connectivity to customers across the globe.

“2014 has been a massively exciting year for O3b, the year in which we launched commercial service and started to truly deliver on the promise that we have made to our customers,” said Steve Collar, CEO of O3b Networks.
