China Telecom and China Unicom to create CDN firm?

China Telecom and China Unicom Hong Kong may be set to collaborate on a content delivery network (CDN) company in a bid to speed up internet access for Chinese users, according to local reports.

A local Chinese paper reported on Friday that an unnamed senior China Telecom employee had confirmed that the two companies were looking to invest in a CDN venture.

The proposed company would allegedly be run by China Telecom’s cloud computing subsidiary, and the news follows rumours of such an initiative between the two for the past 12 months.

Neither of the two companies have officially commented on the news as yet.

Earlier this month, China Telecom’s cloud division partnered with Akamai Technologies to improve content delivery for its customers.
