Polkomtel and Huawei complete VoLTE test

Polkomtel and Huawei have today revealed a successful friendly-user-test (FUT) of voice-over-long-term-evolution (VoLTE) technology in Poland.

The test was conducted on the commercial network elements of Polkomtel’s Plus network, using a Huawei Smartphone, and saw the delivery of HD voice calls and SMS services via the LTE network.

“Two weeks ago, as the first company in Poland and one of the first companies worldwide, we carried out video broadcast via mobile networks in LTE Broadcast (eMBMS) technology. Now we are finalising the successful trial of VoLTE,” said Jacek Felczykowski, CTO at Polkomtel.

“We hope that thanks to our work Plus will increase its competitive advantage over its direct competitors.”

VoLTE services provide instant call connectivity and HD voice and video quality, and enable the seamless exchange of voice calls across 2G, 3G and 4G networks.

The voice service uses advanced adaptive multi-rate (AMR) wideband technology intelligently which reduces background noise as well as improves video quality.

“Huawei is proud of our partnership with Polkomtel which has resulted in the successful completion of a pioneering technical deployment of VoLTE in Poland,” said Deng Taihua, VP of Huawei Central Eastern European and Nordic region.

“It reflects the growth and maturity of the VoLTE ecosystem in the marketplace. We will continue to collaborate to ensure the service quality and innovation of Polkomtel’s VoLTE network.”
