Orange Business Services launches geolocation service

Orange Business Services has added a geolocation service to its M2M offering.

The service provides real-time location tracking of corporate assets and equipment globally through mobile networks.

It is available either through the company’s M2M web portal or via an API option. The service uses SIM cards to identify where equipment is located and which network and operator it is connected to. It can also show the level of network signal.

The M2M SIM card technology was developed by Orange Labs, and is said to not require additional hardware or software.

The company says there could be numerous uses for the services moving forward, including real-time feedback of field operations, remote equipment management and preventive maintenance.
