SingTel expands remittance service to Indonesia

Singapore operator SingTel has expanded its remittance service to Indonesia.

Indonesians living in the country will now be able to use their mobile phones to send money directly to bank accounts of family and friends through the SingTel mRemit service.

The service will be enabled from this Sunday, and will provide access to over 80 Indonesian banks, including Bank Danamon, Bank Negara Indonesia and Bank Mandiri.

Recipients will have access to transferred funds within three minutes of a successful transaction, and as part of the promotion, fees for mobile remittance transactions will be waived until 31 August 2014.

“We are delighted to extend the convenience and flexibility of mRemit to the 180,000 Indonesians who currently call Singapore home,” said Johan Buse, SingTel’s VP of consumer marketing. “With mRemit, customers need not queue for hours at traditional over-the-counter remittance outlets, as they have the flexibility to initiate transfers at any time through their mobile phones. This is particularly useful for workers who have very few days off or work irregular hours.”

SingTel launched mRemit in 2012 and has offered the service to the Philippines in collaboration with GCASH, the mobile commerce service of SingTel’s associated company Globe Telecom.

The service in the Philippines will be further extended to allow the option of sending funds directly to bank accounts in over 50 banks across the country.

mRemit is available to subscribers on all mobile networks.
