Verizon announces 20 PoPs following EdgeCast acquisition

Verizon Digital Media Services has announced the expansion of the Verizon EdgeCast CDN by adding 20 new PoPs around the world in major cities.

Verizon acquired EdgeCast in December last year and has been working with the company to expand its global reach.

It has launched PoPs in Warsaw, Stockholm, Milan, Vienna, Melbourne, Helsinki, Kaohsiung, Batam, Jakarta and São Paulo.

The company has also implemented additional PoPs in many cities around the world where they were already served – including London, Madrid, Paris and Amsterdam – in a bid to offer customers better connectivity and performance.

“The majority of our customers offer their services to a global audience. Our continued worldwide expansion means content is as close as possible to the end-user’s digital doorstep,” said James Segil, CMO, Verizon Digital Media Services. “Continuing to add points of presence to our network helps our customers deliver even their largest files quickly and efficiently, no matter whether the viewer is watching video, shopping, gaming or sharing content.”

Verizon said that each PoP is built securely on the company’s delivery servers, and the facilities are designed to accommodate diverse connections into last-mile networks and are provisioned to support the full suite of Verizon EdgeCast services.
