Max Telecom launches LTE network in Bulgaria

Bulgarian operator Max Telecom has launched what it claims to be the first commercial 4G LTE network in the country.

The 4G services will be available on SIM cards from Max Telecom, and the launch falls in line with plans from the company earlier this year to launch the service in the first half of 2014.

Peter Covell, CEO at Max Telecom, said that the roll-out marks the beginning of a new era for the company.

“We have made considerable efforts to realise this dream,” Covell said. “The Bulgarian market is a sophisticated one and we believe it is ready to go to the next level of technological development.”

Max Telecom is working to rebrand itself as Max, as well as develop a market niche differentiated from the existing fixed and mobile internet services in Bulgaria.

“We believe that 4G LTE mobile internet service is the best fit for a high-end tablet,” Covell added. “Shortly on the market there will be more offers from us, for more devices and with more products”

In April this year, rival Bulgarian operator Mobitel paid €30.6 million to renew its operating licence in the country.
