SingTel Group and Samsung deliver mobile initiatives

SingTel Group and technology firm Samsung have today announced four joint initiatives designed to enhance mobile data services for customers.

The initiatives will be progressively launched by several entities in the SingTel group, including SingTel in Singapore, Optus in Australia, AIS in Thailand, Airtel in India and Africa, Globe Telecom in the Philippines and Telkomsel in Indonesia.

“Our partnership with Samsung demonstrates SingTel Group’s ability to leverage its combined scale and deliver exclusive offerings to over half a billion customers across the region,” said Paul O’Sullivan, CEO of group consumer at SingTel.

The initiatives will cover a number of verticals, such as marketing, content and technology, and are designed to help differentiate services and improve competition.

“As mobile data usage grows in the region, Samsung will continue to work hand-in-hand with partners like SingTel to bring more innovative technology and services to consumers in the market,” said Moon Soo Kim, president and CEO of Samsung Asia.

The initiatives include a retail collaboration programme, to simplify customer retail experience; direct carrier billing, to allow payment without a credit card; a mobile app development programme, to identify innovative start-ups in the region; and direct access to applications, to speed up download times.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for all AIS customers,” Wichien Mektrakarn, CEO at AIS, added. “They will have access to the latest applications that cater to any lifestyles imaginable.”

In March this year, SingTel launched Unified Communications-as-a-Service (UCaaS) for businesses in Asia-Pacific.
