DTAC and Ericsson launch Thai LTE network

DTAC TriNET, a subsidiary of Thai mobile operator DTAC, has today announced a partnership with Ericsson for the roll-out of an LTE network in the country.

The network is being deployed on DTAC’s 2100MHz band, and the operator’s long-term partner Ericsson has been selected as sole supplier for user data management, evolved packet core and circuit core solutions.

“We are pleased to roll out 4G services and we are convinced it will lead to many advantages for our users, who will enjoy better and faster access to information through our high-speed mobile broadband network,” said Panya Vechbanyongratana, SVP of the network operations division at DTAC.

“It will also foster entrepreneurship and active development among mobile operators, vendors, application developers and content producers.”

The roll-out will initially focus on metropolitan Bangkok, and it is designed to be cost-effective and prepared to deal with the expected continuation of growth in data traffic.

"[The partnership] is important, not only for Ericsson but also in terms of realising the networked society,” said Camilla Vautier, head of Ericsson Thailand. “Through this network roll-out, we are enabling Thai citizens to access faster mobile broadband services that can enrich their everyday lives."

Earlier this year, Ericsson signed a deal with another Thai operator, Real Future, for the deployment of an LTE network in the country.
