Telecom Italia considering Metroweb stake

Telecom Italia is reportedly mulling over the potential acquisition of a stake in Italian fibre network provider Metroweb, in an effort to boost its broadband service.
According to sources, negotiations are in the very early stages, but neither company has confirmed the rumours.
The operator has had falling sales in its home market over the last seven years and the acquisition could boost its presence in the country.
“Such an acquisition would definitely help Telecom Italia improve coverage and performance of their fibre-optic footprint,” said Luca Schiavoni, a telecommunications analyst at Ovum. “If such a move goes ahead, Telecom Italia may want to increase its stake in the company in the future to unlock the full potential.”
In January, Egyptian mogul Naguib Sawiris expressed an interest in investing in Telecom Italia.
