Network specialist Ciena has today unveiled several additions to its network solutions portfolio, designed to give operators greater visibility and control over the network.
The WaveLogic Photonics solution includes a number of enhancements to improve network automation.
“Ciena is focussing on simplifying and automating the network to make it as easy as possible for operators to offer reliable services,” Mervyn Kelly, director of field marketing for the EMEA region at Ciena told Capacity.
Ciena has expanded control plane capabilities by enhancing its existing OneConnect Intelligent Control Plane solution, which allows operators to reroute individual services inside the fibre.
This software has now been improved to be able to reroute the entire fibre traffic in case of a problem, Kelly told Capacity.
Ciena also announced a new the solution allowing Raman amplification in a fibre network. The solution is suitable for use in big countries or large single spans and automates the set-up of Raman amps.
The announcement also includes the launch of PinPoint solution software, which allows operators to find troublespots and breakages in the network. This reduces the risk of outages as well as accelerating repair times.
“WaveLogic Photonics is another step in realising our OPN network architecture vision, which is designed to make networks more responsive to business needs,” said Steve Alexander, CTO at Ciena.
“As networks become strategic application-responsive assets, an intelligent, agile optical layer is vital to achieving the necessary flexibility to support changing network demands,” he added.
