Etisalat and Huawei sign partnership

UAE-based operator Etisalat and Chinese vendor Huawei have signed an agreement to cooperate in mobile network expansions in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Northern Emirates over the course of 2014.

As part of the deal, Huawei will provide consultancy services to Etisalat on developing broadband infrastructure. The partnership aims to achieve better resource synergy, network performance, and baseband utilisation.

"This agreement will support Etisalat's ongoing commitment to delivering innovative technologies and opening up fresh opportunities for consumers and businesses to connect throughout the UAE," said Saleh Al Abdooli, CEO of Etisalat UAE.

Additional solutions related to advanced LTE, mobile antenna schemes, carrier aggregation, and other fields will also be provided by Huawei to Etisalat as part of the agreement.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Etisalat’s acquisition of the stake in Maroc Telecom held by French group Vivendi will be finalised in the next few weeks.
