Ocean Networks receives funding for trans-Pacific cable to Latin America

Ocean Networks has secured funding for its South America Pacific Link (SAPL) subsea cable system, which aims to connect Manta, Ecuador to Oahu, Hawaii.

The 9,400km route hopes to tap into the demand from emerging markets in Latin America looking for connectivity into the Asia-Pacific region.

Ocean Networks claims Hawaii can act as a “mid-Pacific hub” for numerous cable systems, and believes SAPL will open up the trans-Pacific market to the west coast of Latin America.

SAPL is due to go operational in mid 2016.
