NSN announces Liquid Applications test success, Malaysian LTE upgrades
25 September 2013 |
Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and South Korea’s SK Telecom have today announced the successful testing of Liquid Applications over LTE.
The trial was designed to examine Liquid Applications as a unique, personalised mobile broadband experience, following a deal signed by the two companies at Mobile World Congress earlier this year.
Liquid Applications was installed into SK Telecom labs at the end of June, and the trial – conducted with three advanced services over LTE – lasted for three months.
“The successful testing of Liquid Applications with SK Telecom showed significant efficiency gains for service delivery, demonstrating that our mobile edge computing capability can transform the delivery of mobile broadband content and enable an exciting responsive and customised experience for mobile subscribers,” said Dirk Lindemeier, head of Liquid Net at NSN.
“We are looking forward to working with SK Telecom to deploy Liquid Applications into their commercial LTE network.”
In other news announced today, Malaysian mobile operator Celcom Axiata Berhad selected NSN for the delivery and upgrade of LTE solutions in Klang Valley, Malaysia.
“This project is another important milestone in our longstanding and well-established relationship with Celcom in Malaysia,” said Paul Tyler, SVP of Asia Pacific at NSN.
Under terms of a three year contract, NSN will supply the network infrastructure for LTE services in the 2600MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands to better the speed and quality of the mobile data experience for Celcom users.
“NSN’s consistency in providing quality infrastructure and services support was a key fit in our network blueprint for superior coverage across spectrums and the best end-user experience.” said Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, CEO of Celcom Axiata Berhad.
Celcom rolled out its initial 4G LTE network in April this year and Ramly expects to invest in further LTE roll-outs in Malaysia in the coming years.
