US metro provider Fibertech Networks has launched a 100G metro Ethernet service aimed at US enterprise and service provider customers.

The company has deployed Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, which is designed to meet growing bandwidth needs from the enterprise segment, particularly for high-speed data centre connectivity and digital media transmission.

Fibertech is present in 29 mid-size markets in the eastern and central regions of the United States, operating a fibre-optic network of over 9,000 route miles and more than 8,000 on-net buildings.

“Providing this large amount of data to the end user demonstrates our ability to implement and support the ever-growing bandwidth needs of our customers,” said Earl Ipsaro, VP of engineering at Fibertech

“By deploying Ciena’s packet-optical and packet networking solutions, we can continue to leverage our fibre infrastructure and expand out to cost-effectively reach more businesses,” he added.
