Etisalat and Epsilon form interconnection partnership in Fujairah

Epsilon has partnered with Etisalat to deploy its Middle Eastern network exchange at the operator’s SmartHub facility in Fujairah, UAE.

Carrier neutral exchange company Epsilon will deploy its eConnect platform at the SmartHub data centre, with a view to supporting its interconnections, capacity trading platform and restoration services across the region and the globe.

As part of the agreement, Epsilon will also be able to provide managed collocation services to customers from Etisalat’s SmartHub.

Fujairah – which has been touted as a connectivity hub for the Middle East – allows Epsilon to cross-connect subsea systems that bridge Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

“This partnership is in line with our overall strategy to evolve SmartHub through partnerships that secure the UAE and Etisalat’s position as a major telecommunications hub,” said Ali Amiri, EVP, Etisalat Carrier and Wholesale services.

Andreas Hipp, CEO at Epsilon Telecommunications, said Etisalat’s SmartHub is a central cross-connect point in the Gulf, which complements its global business.

“Local operators are looking for our support in delivering cross-border connectivity, rather than routing traffic via Europe. There is also growing demand for our eCX capacity trading platform across the region,” he added.
