Brazillian satellite operator to invest $400 million in launch

Brazilian satellite operator Star One, part of Carlos Slim’s Embratel company, will invest $400 million in the launch of its next satellite, Reuters reports.

The Star One D1 satellite is expected to enter orbit in Q1 2016 and will be Star One’s ninth satellite launch.

Designed to deliver internet and data streaming to governments and corporate clients across Brazil and Mexico, the Star One D1 will reportedly be built by Space Systems Loral, based in Palo Alto, California in the US.

The investment follows Slim’s latest bid to take full ownership of KPN in the Netherlands.
