Neotel sets LTE launch date

15 August 2013 |

South Africa’s Neotel has announced it will launch its LTE network in the country on August 21 2013.

The date falls in line with expectations made in May this year, and goes against criticism received by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) for not making sufficient spectrum available.

Neotel was allocated spectrum in the 800MHz band and expected the commercial roll-out to begin in Gauteng with 50 base stations.

MTN, Vodacom, Cell C and Telkom Mobile already have operational LTE networks in South Africa.

No further details have been released.
