Reliance Jio starts 4G roll-out

Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL) has started the roll-out of its 4G LTE network in India, according to local reports.

The deployment has initially begun in Assam and the Northeast regions, encompassing seven states, and the company is reportedly investing between INR 6 and INR 7 billion in phase one of the roll-out.

The move is set to create job opportunities for over 3,000 people, and an RJIL spokesperson told reporters that the company had already recruited 100 engineers.

800 mobile towers are expected to be constructed in Assam, and the company hopes to have the network ready for commercial launch in April 2014.

In June this year, Reliance Jio signed a network sharing agreement with Reliance Communications.
