NTT to launch SDN cloud services in Japan

NTT Communications has today announced plans to launch software-defined networking (SDN)-based cloud services to customers in Japan.

The service, On-premises Connection, is designed to allow for the seamless transition to cloud through on-site connectivity with NTT’s Enterprise Cloud.

NTT hopes the service to significantly reduce the average workload usually required to design and configure on premise networks, and claims it is the first service in the world to do so.

Secure, encrypted data is expected to be able to be transferred between the on-site system and the Enterprise Cloud at speeds of up to 100Mbps.

The SDN technology will reportedly enable customers to adjust their bandwidth for the transfer of data at off peak hours, as well as use existing internet connection lines for cloud migration.

The On-premises Connection service will be officially launched on July 28 2013.

The announcement follows reports earlier this year that NTT was aggressively targeting cloud expansion in the Asia marketplace.
