Media conglomerate ABS-CBN Corp is stepping up its plans to launch as the Philippines’ third operator after striking a network agreement with Globe Telecom.

The company will launch ABS-CBN branded mobile SIM cards to provide both telecoms and content services to customers.

It will enable subscribers to make voice calls, send SMS and browse the internet, in addition to accessing exclusive content generated by ABS-CBN . The group will also offer TV content delivered via a mobile platform, which it considers will give it a distinct marketing edge.

The network agreement with Globe Telecom allows ABS-CBN to offer the planned services over the carrier’s infrastructure, and the company will purchase capacity from Globe under a five year agreement.

It will invest up to $71 million over the next three years on the venture.
