Claro Brasil launches 4G in 11 cities

Brazilian operator Claro Brasil has launched its 4G LTE network in 11 of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup host cities.

The Brazilian government had set a target of 4G coverage for FIFA’s World Cup warm-up tournament in half of host cities. Claro’s announcement, however, has meant 90% of host locations will receive up to 60Mbps speeds, 10 times faster than its existing 3G network.

Cities Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza, Recife, Belo Horizonte, and Salvador are among those cities accessing the 2.5GHz band.

TIM Brasil has selected NSN to build its 4G LTE network in time for both FIFA’s Confederations World Cup, which is being held in Brazil the following year.
