Kabel Deutschland selects ADVA Optical Networking for 100G upgrade

German cable operator Kabel Deutschland has selected ADVA Optical Networking to access its 100G coherent transport to be utilised on its new nationwide backbone network.

Operating as the largest cable operator in Germany, Kabel Deutschland will deploy 100G technology, across its network that presently consists of 26 major nodes and 50 intermediate sites. The network also includes a fully meshed backbone network throughout Germany.

Frank Hellemink, VP of network engineering Kabel Deutschland, chose ADVA Optical Networking “after a thorough selection process”. He said: “From the innovative technology to the excellent performance of the 100G pilot link trial between Hamburg and Berlin, ADVA Optical Networking has proven to be the right choice.”

Kabel Deutschland will have access to a range of services to enable further flexibility to its network, and the company says the 100G network solution will also serve to reduce operational costs and planning requirements.
