HDVC Initiative welcomes five new members

The High Definition Video Conferencing Initiative (HDVC) has today welcomed five new member companies; BT, GENBAND, Huawei, KPN and ZTE.

The HDVC is designed to create an interoperable, multi-operator environment for businesses to hold video conference calls across any network, regardless of call origin or destination.

It reportedly eliminates the need for support of an operators service centre and members hope the open environment created will turn video conferencing into a full service enabling users to connect everything from mobile phones through to large telepresence meeting rooms.

The initiative is built upon industry player participation and the five new members join existing members such as Telefónica, Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom-Orange, Telecom Italia, Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson.

In the first half of 2013, Telefónica, BT, Deutsche Telekom and Telecom Italia are said to be holding national and international commercial trials of the service, targeting enterprise customers.
