XL and Ericsson launch M2M partnership

Ericsson and XL Indonesia have signed an M2M agreement thought to be the first of its kind in South East Asia.

The move will see Ericsson provide M2M connectivity delivered as a service in order to support XL’s M2M products which target enterprises.

“This strategic partnership is in line with Ericsson’s vision that there will be 50 billion connected devices around the world, mainly through M2M, by 2020,” said Sam Saba, president director of Ericsson Indonesia.

Ericsson’s device connection platform (DCP) is expected to allow XL to increase revenue and decrease expense, enabling XL customers to deploy, manage and monetise M2M and consumer electronics devices.

XL’s M2M offering includes smart metering and point of sales solutions, fleet management, logistics and delivery, personal tracking and mobile surveillance. The company is said to also benefit from Ericsson’s local and global reach.

“Ericsson’s device connecting platform will enable XL to provide flexibility in offering end-to-end M2M products and services to our enterprise customers,” said Dian Siswarini, director of technology, content and digital services at XL.

M2M is widely predicted to be a key market in 2013, with M2M alliances playing an increasingly important role in its development.
