Virgin planning to bid for MVNO licence in Saudi Arabia

Virgin Mobile MEA has confirmed plans to secure an MVNO licence in Saudi Arabia.

Formerly known as FRiENDi, the company rebranded in 2012, and its CEO and founder Mikkel Vinter has told local reports that the company is in a good position to secure a licence in the country.

The Virgin Group took a minority stake in the company last year, and is now working on a bid to enhance operations and secure an MVNO position.

Saudi Arabia’s Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has set a deadline of May 4 2013 for interested parties to submit applications for an MVNO licence.

UAE-based du and Oman’s Renna Mobile are also interested in bidding for a licence in Saudi Arabia, according to reports.
