Deutsche Telekom chief executive René Obermann is to step down from his position at the end of 2013.

He will be replaced by the company’s present financial chief, Timotheus Hoettges, after Obermann has asked the supervisory board to be released from his duties. The company did not provide any further details.

“In the last few years we have found solutions for our key issues,” said René Obermann, chief executive at the company.

“As an employer, we have given the topic of cultural diversity new momentum, which has been recognised and even emulated beyond the company. Furthermore, we have driven a shift in values at the company.”

The supervisory board confirmed it had accepted the request and “consented to terminate his appointment at that juncture”.
