Syrian internet experiences major outage

Syria’s international internet connectivity shut down at 10:26am GMT today with all 84 of the country’s IP address blocks becoming unreachable, according to Renesys.

The research firm said that the event effectively removed the country from the internet.

Renesys later updated that 77 Syrian networks experienced an outage beginning at 10:26am all of which were owned by the Syrian Telecommunications Establishment. This number represents 92% of all routed networks in the country.

A series of events were recorded in the build up to today’s shut down including an outage of nine networks at 12:08pm GMT on November 27 and a restoration of 14 networks at 2:14pm GMT on the same day.
