Wholesale telecoms industry is “lucky” says TIWS CEO

Capacity Europe kicked off on a positive note yesterday morning, as keynote speakers revealed their strategies for a sustainable future.

Telefónica International Wholesale Services CEO, José Ramón Vela, began by proclaiming the wholesale industry as “lucky” compared to other industries in front of a packed conference hall. “We are changing the world with our products and services,” he said.

Vela also said the industry needs to move from managing networks to managing a global platform. He went on to reveal the company’s plans to evolve, which included aligning its business nearer to the new digital world.

Vela’s opening keynote address was proceeded by Michel Guyot, president of global voice solutions at Tata Communications, who spoke about the changing role of the wholesale service provider.

Guyot focussed on quality of service in the first half of his keynote speech. In particular, he threw his support behind HD voice, saying the technology is evidence of “why quality needs an industry-wide focus”.

Guyot went on to encourage carriers to embrace innovation as well as keep a strong focus on profitability.
