EvoSwitch earmarks US expansion with data centre

Carrier neutral data centre provider EvoSwitch has announced today that it will open its first US data centre, WDC1, on January 1 2013.

The company’s entrance into the US market was driven by customer demand and the site, located in Manassas, Virginia, will open with 27% of its first phase already sold to customers.

EvoSwitch has signed a long-term lease for the facility and will begin phase one with an initial commitment of 3MW of critical power.

Future build out phases will allow the facility to be expanded by up to 100,000 square feet to meet customer demand.

“We believe our brand of innovative and sustainable carrier-neutral co-location will provide an excellent alternative for the many cloud, digital media and telecoms companies looking for carrier neutral data centre services,” said Eric Boonstra, CEO of EvoSwitch.

EvoSwitch hopes to attract a large base of carriers and other network service providers, preferably around a strong internet exchange partner, to serve its customer interconnection needs at the new site.
