NewTelco improves Ethernet offering

Co-location specialist NewTelco is offering service provider customers new Ethernet connectivity services in Germany based on technology from network vendor Ciena and systems integrator Axian.

The deployment at NewTelco’s Ethernet exchange centre in Frankfurt will be followed by an expansion programme covering London in the UK, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Zurich in Switzerland, Vienna in Austria, Stockholm in Sweden, Kiev in Ukraine and New York in the US.

Ciena will replace NewTelco’s exchange network with its Carrier Ethernet solutions based on the vendor’s service aggregation switches. The vendor claims that this will enable NewTelco to offer reliable and flexible connectivity to carrier customers, while supporting higher SLAs.

NewTelco will also deploy Ciena’s unified management system to manage its network.

“NewTelco’s international customers count on us for highly reliable, flexible and cost-efficient connectivity in the key exchange centre in Europe (Frankfurt am Main). Ciena’s technology is powering NewTelco’s position in the Ethernet Exchange industry by enabling us to tailor services to the specific requirements of each carrier customer and support higher, verifiable SLAs,” said Matthias Hartmann, MD at NewTelco.

Ciena claims that through its Ethernet switch architecture, NewTelco will be able to support all of its carrier customers on a single platform and minimise the number of interfaces required by customers, reducing capex and opex.
