Four companies to compete in Czech 4G auction

Four companies are set to participate in the Czech 4G spectrum auction after submitting applications to the Czech Telecommunications Office this week.

All three of the nation’s existing mobile operators in the Czech market, which include the local entities of Telefónica, T-Mobile and Vodafone, are set to participate in the auction.

According to local sources, private equity firm PPF, which belongs to local businessman Petr Kellner, is the fourth participant in the auction as it looks to potentially launch a new mobile operator in the market.

Starting prices for frequencies in the 800, 1800 and 2600MHz bands are said to be valued at approximately €300 million.

The 4G auction is planned for November with frequencies to be assigned by the end of this year or early 2013.
