NTT DoCoMo to acquire Guam’s MCV Broadband

03 September 2012 |

NTT DoCoMo has reportedly agreed to acquire triple play provider MCV Broadband, based in Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, from private equity firm Seaport Capital.

Pacific Daily News cites NTT DoCoMo’s PR manager, Eijun Tanaka, as confirming that the company has signed an agreement with MCV’s shareholders and that it would release more details of the acquisition after receiving approval from the Federal Communications Commission.

Seaport was reported to be considering bids for the cable TV, telephony and high-speed internet provider from three potential buyers earlier this month.

NTT DoComo already owns Guam’s leading mobile operator, DoCoMo Pacific, which entered the market in 2006 after acquiring and combining local mobile networks Guamcell Communications and Guam Wireless Telephone Company.

Given this market leading position the regulator may attach conditions to the deal for approval to be granted.
