BT and Rostelecom sign interconnection agreement

BT is set to improve its reach in Russia via an interconnection agreement with national telecoms operator Rostelecom.

The British service provider said that the agreement will significantly enhance its ability to serve corporate customers across all Russian regions with the BT Connect portfolio of network services.

Rostelecom is also set to gain by being able to provide its customers with services outside Russia as they seek to expand globally.

“While the global economy is more unbalanced than ever, a growing number of multinational companies are expanding in Russia, including in the financial services sector. The success of that expansion relies heavily on the ability to adapt instantaneously to changing market conditions. High performance, fully secure networked IT services are absolutely key to that ability and BT is already a global leader in delivering such services,” said Luis Alvarez, president of Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Latin America at BT.

“By substantially increasing the reach and capillarity of our network services across all Russian regions, this agreement with Rostelecom will help us maximise growth opportunities for our customers in important new markets.”

BT already serves around 400 large organisations in Russia including leading multinational and financial services organisations. Many of which rely on BT’s network to connect to the cloud-based BT Radianz shared market financial service platform.

Rostelecom’s network consists of 500,000km of backbone infrastructure across Russia, providing services to approximately 43 million residential and enterprise customers.
